Wedding Weekend 2006

So my cousin Kate is getting married this weekend. She's the first grandkid in the family to get hitched. So this will be an exciting weekend--lots of fun, festivities, and free booze! My Date is unable to make the trip (.../pout) but I promised him I would bring him back a souvenir--AKA--the bouquet. Deep deep down, I know he's excited :)

WooT!

Today is the last day of summer school!!! I am officially a FREE woman....Well, just for the month of July,

Superman Returns

On Saturday Matt and I got to see a special early viewing of Superman Returns for free!!! (I knew one of these days the Army would have some benefits.) Four whole days before the rest of the world. Be jealous...Be very jealous. It was a G R E A T movie!! Usually all sequels/ remakes are disappointing, but not this one. This one makes me excited to see the next one. So, when the movie is released, I recommend everyone go see it. Marie gives it 4.5/5 stars.

Tanning...

So, I've decided to try one of these subtle tanning lotions, you know--because it's summer and time to combat the whiteness. I tried Vaseline Intensive Care: Healthy Body Glow. And let me just say: It's a keeper. You are supposed to see results after one week, but I've been using it for 3 days now, and already I can tell a difference. Now, don't be confused, I'm not the hue of a Hawaiian Tropics model...Yet. But, as Holly put it, "I'm not quite so blinding." This, in itself, is progress. And, in case you are wondering, it doesn't turn you orange. At least I don't think I looks orange, but what do I know? I've never had a tan before in my life! LOL!

Bath and Body Works: Semi-Annual Sale...

Damn you, semi-annual sale....it gets me every time! I went in there to buy one thing--ONE THING--and then it turns out to be a sale day. Darn my luck. And of course they were sold out of what I wanted (Green Tea and Cucumber) so I settled for Pear Blossom. Very nice, clean scent, not fruity liky one would expect. And they have a new one called Magnolia Blossom....how charming! I guess the South will rise again...in the form of fragrances by Bath and Body Works. Okay, so here is my top three fragrances in order... Green Tea Cucumber. Coconut Lime Verbena. Poeny. What are yours?

NACHOOOOOOOOOoooooo..oooo...

Nacho Libre: Wow.....Holy wow! Hilarious movie! I laughed so hard I missed parts of the movie. It was great. I highly recommend it. It is in the same vein as Napoleon Dynamite, but not such dry humor.

So Matt and I went to the mall Saturday night to see Nacho Libre. I have never seen so many people bring their babies to the movies. There should be a 7-year old minimum requirement to get into theaters, and even then, there should a be screening process. There were toddlers running around screaming during the movie, and little babies crying all over the place. It was rather annoying. And there was this one kid behind us that would ask every 5 to 10 minutes, "Why is he sad? Why is he laughing? Why is he wearing those pants?" This is why I would rather go to the drive-in. But, it's way too hot out here right now for that. We would die of heat exhaustion at 10:00 at night, and that would just be tragic.

Ranting...

Rant #1: The Army
So, as of yesterday morning, Matthew is officially on the Stop-Loss program. Meaning- he has no scheduled date to get out of the Army. He is in indefinitely now. Well, we all knew this was coming, but here is my rant: When I went down to the Fort last weekend, I noticed sunlight streaming through a camouflaged army tarp that was pined up over the windows in his bedroom. "What happened to your curtains?" I ask. "Don't know. I got out of the shower one morning and they were gone, " he replies. WHO DOES THIS?! Apparently, The Powers That Be took everyone's curtains. And noone knows if or when they are coming back--it's like some big state secret. I mean-go ahead-keep him in the military for the rest of his life, make his average work day more difficult than it has to be, make him work under people who have no idea what they are doing, make him live in a place shabbier than a college dorm, but don't take the man's curtains. That's just wrong!

Rant #2: Pigeons
Have I told you that my apartment has a pigeon problem? Last spring I had a brood of pigeons pooping and having babies on my balcony. It was gross. Now that I have put netting up to keep them away, I am certain they are out for revenge. No matter where I park my car, those damn pigeons manage to poop all over the front of my car. So, now I am spending $5 at the car wash every couple of days.

Rant #3: Heat
It is so frickin hot outside. It's supposed to be a record-breaking 108 today. I believe them. When the local radio stations broadcast warnings that say "Do NOT leave anything in your car today, for it will melt..." there is a very serious problem.

Detour...

How do I manage? I was driving home from Matt's place this afternoon, and right off post, an oil truck had flipped over in the interstate spilling oil everywhere. So, some locals in their pick-up trucks blocked off all four lanes of the highway. I tell them I need to get back to Tucson, and they are like, "Miss, the only way you are going to get on the other side of this turck here, is to drive yourself all the way to Tombstone." At first I thought he was kidding....Tombtone is an hour out of my way. But, seeing as how Arizona is mostly unsettled desert wasteland and there is insufficient infrastructure, Tombstone was my last resort. Another unfortunate side-effect of sparce civilization is poorly marked roads. Once I get into Tombstone there is a not-at-all-labled road that I know from past experience is actually HWY 80 that will take you to the interstate. The only detail in question now, is if I go right or left, seeing as how NOTHING indicates north /south /east /west/or the next major city. I go right. I remember something about taking a right from the last time I visited Tombstone. I drove 25 miles in the wrong direction before I saw a sign for Mexico and found a place to turn around. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN MEXICO!!! Anyways, I eventually found my way home...2 and a half hours later....keep in mind, Matt's place is only an hour drive. What a day!

Way Too Late Weekend Update: Jackson Edition

Well, I made it back from Mississippi, and so did my luggage...Eventually. It was a very refreshing visit. Here are some highlights:

1. Michael's graduation: I love that kid! But I can't believe he's old enough for college...how stressful. Anyways, St. Joe was the same ole St. Joe. Except for now we have a BAND! True story-I heard 'em with my own two ears.

2. Crawfish: We had a B-lated crawfish boil for my birthday. Oh! They were to DIE for! It smelled so summery and Mississippi. And then we has this amazing crawfish pasta, and there were TONS leftover, so I told Matt that I would bring some back for him. But when I forgot the pasta in MS, and showed up to his place empty handed, I think his exact words were, "You can leave now...." (He's just jealous)
2. Max: The puppy is into everything including crawfish. This was hilarious: Max started digging live crawfish out of the bucket and running off with them. I also heard that Max enjoys picking squash from the garden with Dad in the morning. But one day last week Dad didn't go into the garden, so while everyone was at work, Max went into the garden and had his way with the squash. He up rooted a whole plant and had squash strewn all over the back porch. Poor Maxie, he just wanted to help....

4. 25th Wedding Anniversary: My parents also celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. And I don't even have a picture from the party to show ya'll....Booo, me. But it was very romantical. We had mass, they exchanged vows and rings again, and then we had a quite a party. Mom even got a wedding cake again. How exciting!
5. Jackson Girls: Eventhough Melissa, An'drea, and I no longer live in Jackson at the moment, we all happened to meet up at my favorite place and yours...McAllister's. I pity the fool who has not eaten at McAllister's. It was great. I actually went there twice in once day: First with Matt's mom for lunch, and a few hours later for a sweet tea re-fill.....mmmmmm!

6. Old School Jackson Girls: I went out to eat Mexican with Hope and Danielle the night before I left. The guy at the table next to us was hitting on Danielle, and he kept buying us mango margaritas. It was great! Danielle, we need to go out more often!
